Record Sportshall Weekend

 

Swale athletes enjoyed a great competition of Sportshall Athletics at Folkestone for match 2 of the Kent Sportshall Series as three county records were set and a top performance from our under 11s.

 

Under 11s A team turned out their highest ever finish as the quartet of William Jury, Jamie Berkman, Violet Bing and Rachel Cockell scored 100pts to fall just 5.5pts shy of winning the match.

 

BOTH Jamie and Will broke the Kent under 11s Javelin record. Will added three meters to the old record with his throw of 28.00m before Jamie sent a rocket to 29.75m, winning the event with new Club and County records.

 

Freya Jury was in dominating form in the under 15 girls event as she won 3 of 5 events, finishing 2nd in the other two.

Highlighting her day by equalling her own County speed bounce record of 95, Freya won the age group by nearly 100points.

Club Championships 2017

 

 

A great day at the 2017 club championships once again. 37 athletes from Swale Combined AC were in attendance for a day packed with PBs.

 

Under 11s Long Jump was an early highlight with Rachel Cockell, William Jury and Ben Whitehead all setting new bests.

 

James English dropped his 800m Club Record to 2.26.71min with sister Alice chasing hard for a new PB of 2.34.85min.

 

Jamie Berkman was 8m clear of his competitiors in the U11 Vortex Throw with a best of 34.40m.

 

Reece Williams closed the day out by winning the Javelin - the most impressive throw of the day by a long shot, a PB of 39.45m.

First English Schools Qualification

 

Alice English earnt her first selection for the English Schools finals with the Kent team. Competing in the Heptathlon, Alice posted two PBs on her way to a new Hepth best score of 3756pts to finish 3rd in the South East Regional Round.

The finals at Boston, Lincs, on Sept 16/17th.

Combined Events Record Success

 

Zoe Francis set a Hurdles Club Record, 3 new personal bests and an equal PB on her way to a new Club Record in the Under 13 girls Pentathlon at the Kent U13 Combined Events Championships.

 

Zoe hit her rythm straight away in the Hurdles, timing a Club Record 13.22sec to win her heat, the second fastest race of the day. Followed by a new PB of 3.88m in the Long Jump saw her take 4th place after two events.

 

Zoe landed 5.60m in the Shot before an equal best in the High Jump of 1.20m. With one event to go Zoe had already past her previous pentathlon score. Zoe was also in the fast race of the 800m and finished her day with a best there of 3.01.07min to take 6th overall and 1657pts

Violet turns Gold

Sittingbourne 10mile and 2km

 

Strong running from both our young athletes and senior team early in the winter season.

 

Violet Bing got away quickly in the 2km Fun Run. She settled in as lead girl and was nearly 100m clear of 2nd after a great sprint finish to win as First Girl. Violet also saw her School, Westlands Primary, win the schools race.

 

Also finishing running well for Swale were Ben Whitehead, Ewan Strachan and Christine Lynch

 

Rick Hudson was first Swale Senior home in the 10 mile race; finishing 26th overall in 1hr 6.43min. Andrew Scoones was next in 49th with 1hr 9.40min and Lisa Berkman was Swales leading lady with 1hr 21.10min for 155th overall and 26th female.
